This mini-series is going to explore God’s idea for multi-cultural church. Diversity is NOT a modern invention; it is not a social construct. The two times in history when The Church will be at its MOST diverse was in the first century and will be again in Heaven! If we say our church is a New Testament church and yet as we look around the room everyone looks, thinks, votes, and acts like us…well? The same is true for our churches that proclaim “maranatha” meaning that we should be asking if we are really ready for Christ’s return…is He looking for homogeneity? And I am convinced that churches in America are in decline (have been for the last decade) even while the diversity of congregations are on the rise because people who are coming to churches in search of a Gospel message that promises reconciliation are finding churches preaching a cross that reconciles us to God but is simultaneously failing miserably at being reconciled to one another…simply put, we lack a credible witness! If you are looking for a great book on this topic, I recommend Building A Healthy Multi-Ethnic Church by Mark DeyMaz. I will be referring to this book often in this series. Let’s be committed to getting ready for Heaven…every nation, every tribe, every language!
