At the end of our lives, the goal isn’t to hear God say: “well learned, good and faithful student,” but rather “well done, good and faithful servant.” Likewise, a good sermon doesn’t just stimulate the mind- it should activate the hands and feet! Jesus doesn’t just want people to hear His words in the Sermon on the Mount. He wants his listeners to “hear these words of mine and put them into practice.” As a result He closes His sermon- and we close this series- with three vital responses that should be present in the life of the one who both hears and obeys, drawing from His closing metaphors of two gates, two teachers, and two houses. Your response will determine your destiny!
