Good. When you see that word, what is the first thing that comes to mind? My guess it is something similar to how the word used in Genesis 1 is defined: pleasant, agreeable, glad, happy, and prosperous. Or possibly something similar to word Jesus uses in John 16:7 when He says that it is good for us that He goes away: to help, profitable, expedient. And finally, possibly something similar to the word used in Romans 8:28: useful, pleasant, excellent, and honorable. So how then do we take all those words and apply them to Good Friday? In this message we will talk about how God’s idea of good challenges us to accept that even when something doesn’t appear to be good for what it is or for what it does…it can still be good, even very good because of what it makes possible…often for future generations. This series is entitled Easter Rewind as we look at the timeline that brings us to Easter in reverse. If we aren’t careful, we will see the timeline leading up to Easter as a linear, prophetic picture implying that the rest of our days will be like Resurrection Sunday. But in reality, there are still Good Fridays and Garden of Gethsemanes waiting for us in our tomorrows. I’ve met too many Christinas who wrestle with doubt and despair because they can’t reconcile their present difficulty with an overly narrow view of a “good God” that some well meaning pastor inflicted upon them. God is good. God always has our best interest at heart. God still asks us to do hard things.
