On Father’s Day our celebration of fathers is often sobered by the present reality that 1 in 3 children in the United States is growing up without one. And worldwide, if you combined the number of orphans to create one nation, it would be the 9th largest nation in the world! God loves fathers, and one name that Jesus is prophetically given in the Old Testament is “Everlasting Father.” Jesus doubles down on this reality in John 14, where he says he will never leave us orphaned or forsaken. It’s for this reason that he tells us in verse one to trust in Him. But that’s often easier said than done in our world of broken people and broken trusts. How do we walk in obedience to Jesus’ demand to trust?
