Isaiah 40:9 is a curious verse. Depending on your translation, the “voice” is either attributed to some anonymous person or to what appears to be the actual places. There are various commentaries offering differing points of view on the matter but none that i have found offer what I believe to be God’s original intent with the text. That is: I believe that there are places that God sets aside, makes sacred, calls holy to be spaces where we are easily awakened to His presence, to hear His voice…as if those places actually had a real voice of its own…and I believe the 311 Selden Road (The City Life Church Campus) is one of these spaces! We are home to 5 partner churches (including City Life) and 5 Christ honoring partner organizations…all of whom are the impetus behind people finding themselves at this place, in this space and our belief is that while here people are going to discover God’s presence and hear His voice. In this message will take a look at Genesis 28 and the story of Jacob naming what would one day become the city Bethel to remind us that God sets apart certain places to be sacred spaces. I hope that whatever church you call home is such a place. For this special service celebrating 19 years of ministry in the 757 by City Life Church, I am challenging our church to carry into 2025 a Get Thee Up prayer…asking God what their part is supposed to be in continuing to build into this ministry, into ensuring this place, this sacred space will always be a Bethel here in the 757 for generations to come.
