When you type the word “liturgy” into google images what is the result? Dozens upon dozens of photos of cathedral interiors with choir boys, candles, incense, and lots and lots of robes. Those aren’t elements you will find in many of City Life’s worship services. But tonight we’ll take a fresh look at the word liturgy- “rituals and scripts for various forms of public worship” – recognizing that God has long provided his people with directions for worship, starting with the first books of the Bible. Reconsidering liturgy’s place in scripture has the potential to take our often shallow and compartmentalized picture of worship and bring it to a higher definition again.
