“God has filled me with bitterness and given me a bitter cup of sorrow to drink. He has made me chew on gravel. He has rolled me in the dust.” We won’t be singing those words in worship any time soon. And if the title of my sermon was “God Makes Me Chew On Gravel,” you probably wouldn’t be downloading the podcast! Yet these words are in our Bibles, the very living Word of God. Why? And what does it tell us about God that two thirds of the Psalms contain laments, and entire books of the Bible like Job and Lamentations are all but dedicated to lamenting? What exactly is a Biblical lament, and how does it elevate our consideration of words like prayer and hope? We dig into all of the above as we continue in the series High Definition with “lament.”
