In this series, when we use the word “worship” we are talking about a Psalmic practice of expression in both personal and corporate settings that embraces God’s sovereignty, extols His glory, revels in His majesty, and gives Him honor. Psalmic worship is often misunderstood as an attempt to be modern or contemporary. Are there churches that are trying to be modern and contemporary, of course. But at City Life, our hope is to be ancient with our worship. We also want people to learn that the practice of worship is part of a longer list of spiritual activities Scripture implores us to regularly practice if we hope to be spiritually vibrant. You can learn more about these pathways at www.letspraxis.com. This series will be building on the book and small group series Holy Roar. While tonight’s message is about my own personal journey with Psalmic worship, the series will be an in depth study on the 7 Hebrew words that are translated as “praise” in our Bibles. So often when I think of worship, I think of the time when Jesus was arriving in Jerusalem during what is commonly referred to as His triumphal entry. The people were shouting praises and the religious leaders implored Jesus to tell them to be quiet. And Jesus replied that if He did, then the rocks would cry out. I don’t want to give the rocks a chance! I want Psalmic worship to be a hallmark of my life and your life!
