What do we NOT teach our children in preschool? Well, we don’t teach them driving skills. We don’t teach them how to use matches. We don’t teach them how to cut vegetables with a sharp knife. We don’t teach them how to change the oil in a lawn mower. We don’t teach them how to make homemade weed killer for gardening. Are you following the pattern here? All of these will likely be life skills they will learn at some point in their lives. One day they will be ready to learn these skills but not yet. A great teacher understands the abilities and potential of their students. They don’t teach them beyond their capability. Can we agree that Jesus is the greatest of all teachers? So when we read texts like the Sermon on the Mount, chapters five, six, and seven in the gospel of Matthew, do we see Jesus as someone who is being dictatorial and making impossible demands of our His students? Or do we see Him as the greatest of teachers, showing us a better way to live because He believes in us, because He sees our potential, because He understands our abilities? Jesus believe in you! We can be virtuous. We can be the the virtuous person He envisions, and from us can flow every Godly deed He has destined us to fulfill. So let’s devote our lives to the work of Pathways, tilling up the soil of our souls, doing our part along with the Holy Spirit for our lives to be a spiritually vibrant garden for virtues to flourish.
