Should we pray about the outcome of political elections? Well, you should know that any question that begins with “Should we pray…” is always getting a resounding yes from me! The better question is this: How should we pray about the outcomes of political elections? In Luke 11 we find the disciples coming to Jesus and asking Him to teach them to pray. We should find this terribly curious because as Jewish men, they have prayed constantly every day of their entire lives. There are morning prayers. There are mid-day prayers. There are evening prayers. There are prayers before AND after every meal. There are added prayers for Sabbath and Passover…Jewish people knew how to pray. Why am I sharing that? Because even if you think you know everything there is to know about prayer (these disciples surely would have believed that about themselves) Jesus always has something more to teach us! In this message, we talk about how Jesus was unapologetically political at times in His preaching. We talk about the correlation between The Lord’s Prayer in Matthew 6 and Paul’s instruction on prayer in Philippians 4, and finally a warning about modern day Gnosticism. I hope you enjoy this message which is the launch of a new series on prayer…but more importantly, I hope it inspires you to pray and possibly pray in ways you haven’t before!
