Firsts. All throughout history there are firsts. In 1971 there was the very first email communication between two computers. In 1903 we have the first powered flight. In 1542 Spain passes the first anti-slavery laws. And during the first century a man by the name of Epenetus (ee-pen-eh-tus) was the very first person in Asia to make a vow of devotion to Jesus! The attached notes for this message walk us through three lessons his life reveals to us: living but not yet alive, known but not yet beloved, and present but not yet assigned. But as I prepare for this sermon, my sense is that our focus will be the second of those three lessons. I hope this message inspires you to become one of the beloved and that you will download the notes and consider the other two life lessons Epenetus gives to us: alive and assigned!
