Part of parenting is setting expectations for our kids. When entering into the unknown or potentially tense situations, we can gift them peace of mind by setting expectations ahead of time. Throughout scripture God does this for His people. We see Jesus doing this for the church in Smyrna in Revelation 2. But His word for them is a universal reality that we’d rather not share in: “you will suffer.” Why do we suffer? Why does God allow trials? How do we grow in the midst of them? And are we even asking the right questions? We’ll dig into all of this tonight as we study Revelation 2:8-11 and Jesus’ letter to the church in Smyrna.
