First century people who professed faith in Jesus as the Messiah were identified by names that placed a greater emphasis on becoming like Jesus and not just believing in Jesus. The name we see in Acts -“The Way” – should be instructive for us today. Jesus must not just be a means to Heaven. He is our pattern for living. This series is entitled Shalom because it is one of the four “ways” of Jesus (The Way of Jesus’ Peace). Jesus was at peace with God, Himself, others, and creation. Each week we will look at one of these four. Tonight’s message specifically looks at being at peace with God. Last week we talked about peace with yourself hinging on peace with your unchangeables, tonight peace with God hinges on His unknowables. How do you trust God (the recipe for peace we see in Isaiah 26:3) when the ways of God prove higher than our ways – especially due to the presence of cruelty and absence of clarity in life? Only when we learn to trust the incomprehensible God will we truly experience peace with Him!
