One of the reasons there is so much discord among Christians due to political strife is because citizenship is misplaced. Paul challenges us in both Philippians 3:20 and Ephesians 2:19 to never forget that we must first identify as citizens of Heaven. Misplaced citizenship has serious consequences. The group of people with which we identify the most gives us our dominant culture, our most instructive culture. Bruce J. Malina in his book The New Testament world reminds us that culture is based on six key components: perception, feeling, acting, believing, admiring, and striving. I hope those look familiar to you because those are all the themes of Jesus’ teachings! Who is defining those for you? Because if it isn’t Jesus, you are paying a price. And in this message you will hear about how that price will likely be: destiny derailed, miracles missed, and rest relinquished. Be a citizen of Heaven first!
