Biblical wisdom is always loving and love is always Biblically wise. I believe Paul was trying instruct young Timothy in 2 Timothy 1:7 not just about confidence and courage but also the importance of using our God given freewill as a means to think and act towards people in a loving way that is tempered by Biblical truth. Love without truth affirms and accepts but can fail to correct. And truth without love tends to drift toward callousness. 2 Timothy 1:7 is more than a promise…it is a moral mandate. And when we fail this moral mandate, we will inevitably mis-judge the thoughts and actions of others, especially when they conflict with our own. Jesus’ parable of The Good Samaritan is beautiful and also firm warning against those of us who are guilty of feeling morally superior to others we mis-judge and is I believe parable in pairing with 2 Timothy 1:7.
