Each of us at some point in our lives have looked into an imaginary mirror and envisioned a version of our future self. And for many of us, we spend a significant portion of our lives trying to create that self image we envisioned, to see it manifested. I would like to suggest to you tonight in this message that image is not something we are supposed to create. Image is something we are supposed to discover. In Matthew 16, Jesus said to Peter, “You are Peter and upon this rock I will build My church.” Jesus didn’t say “one day you will be.” Jesus said, “You are…” When I Am says to us “you are” He is reminding us that He has already created our image, our Imago Dei, and our job is to discover that image and walk in it! In this message I am going to give you three consequences when we try to create an image instead of discovering our Imago Dei. And always remember, the first step to know who you are is knowing who Jesus is! In Matthew 16, Jesus begins the conversation with Peter by asking, “Who do you say that I am?” I hope this message inspires you discover Jesus and in doing so, discover your true self!
