Are you willing to follow Jesus’ example? Let that question hang over you for just a few minutes. Take a few deep breaths. Before you answer, ponder the actual question a few times. I found it helpful to verbalize that question out loud. And before you answer, add a little to the question: How far are you willing to follow? When I read in John 1:12 and see that we are given the right to become the children of God, I celebrate that promise! And I carry the responsibility to understand what the Holy Spirit who inspired that verse meant when He said this promise of spiritual adoption is for those who receive and believed Jesus. We could do an entire sermon series on “receiving and believing Jesus” but for this sermon, I want to focus in on how receiving and believing includes the practice of following Jesus’ example. Is His example my experience? Daily? Am I living out what Jesus showed me through His own life? In this message I am going to focus on three specific examples of Jesus: His incarnation example, His vicarious example, and His resurrection example. Will you follow Jesus with me? How far will we go together?
