I’d highly recommend listening to last week’s message before trying to digest this one. We take some BIG bites here in our efforts to try and understand what it looks like practically to follow Jesus’ example, especially in a social media driven society. I’m going to share some questions that I’m asking of myself, especially when it comes to sharing my own personal laments. If “lament” is a new term for you, then I think this sermon will help you find some new language to describe what you are reading and possibly posting on social media. All of this will flow from the powerful promise given to us in John 1:12-13 where we are called the “children” of God. Not child…children. Jesus’ death on the cross didn’t only reconcile us to God but made a way for us to be reconciled to one another. Jesus’ example for us is not just an individual example; it is a communal example. In this sermon we will compare and contrast the “me” sin of the Garden of Eden and the “we” sin of The Tower of Babel and God’s plan to deal with both. Ultimately, we circle back to The Gospel and John 1:12-13. If you are just beginning to believe, are you now ready to receive? And if you receive, will you make room for your brother and sisters in Christ, the children of God? Thanks for sharing your time with us to listen to this message…and don’t forget, the notes and verses are always downloadable here on our website!
