When is the last time you reflected on Jesus’ return? When is the last time you reflected on eternity? A phrase I have been declaring over myself and teaching to others is this: I am an immortal, eternal being created by God to live and rule and reign with Him forever! Towards the end of Jesus’ time here on earth, His remarks about His imminent return became more frequent. Eternity on the other hand had always been at the forefront of His sermons. Both demonstrate in their own unique way an emphasis by Jesus. One He emphasized through repetition and the other through a “my final words” approach. So the question to us is have we made each of these an emphasis for our lives in reflection, conversation, and prayer? Tonight’s message will examine Jesus’ famous discourse at The Last Supper that is commonly read beginning at chapter 14. We will however back up to the end of chapter 13 where the conversation actually begins. Jesus’ use of imagery, language, and prophetic declaration demonstrates His love for us yet again…reminding us that His great desire is to be with us for all eternity! Here in this wonderful text, Jesus speaks of both His return and eternity!
