In Part Two of this series we modernized some of the language that we find in Malachi that talks about “blessing” and “cursing.” Another way you can think of those verses is that when we do things God’s way we will always ultimately have more and on the contrary, when we do things our way (in rejection of God’s way) we will always ultimately have less. The word “ultimately” is important because initially the feeling is just the opposite. Isn’t that the way with most experiences that lead us away from God? Think about Adam and Eve in the Garden…in that moment, the moment they ate the fruit it felt like more but soon they realized how much less they had settled for. God’s ways always ultimately lead to more! Tithing is about faith, not math. When we give sacrificially, the math says we have less but anyone who has committed to a lifetime of tithing will tell you that “more” is the word that best describes the life of someone living out Christian stewardship! We wrap up this mini series tonight with Tithing, Part Two. Both sermons together answer all six questions that I hear most as related to tithing: the portion, the consequence, the priority, the place, the offerings, and the trust. Thanks for listening, and I hope you are being inspired to live a life of Christian Stewardship, giving sacrificially to and through the church you call home!
